Why Members Get Involved

The Los Angeles region faces a number of growing problems in the local labor market, including fragmentation and under-funding of the current workforce development systems/services and a shifting economic base from manufacturing to a service sector with the diminution of well-paying jobs.

One of the most significant challenges is the need for a ready pool of skilled workers, which the existing public workforce system cannot supply. Limited education, language deficits, and inadequate skills development are restricting new workers to low-wage jobs and curbing the growth of industries in high demand sectors (e.g. healthcare, logistics, and “green” jobs) that rely heavily upon a skilled labor force.

In addition to this, new workers, who need skills, and those already in the workplace have limited opportunities and access to job training and resources that can help them learn or upgrade their skills to compete in today’s workforce.

By addressing these challenges through LAWFC, our members can:

  • Strengthen local businesses and our economy
  • Influence the direction of our local and national workforce
  • Improve the quality of life for hard-working individuals and their families
  • Increase their organizational outcomes and Return on Investment

You and your organization can be a part of this positive, long-term change.
