Our Results

Since 2007, the Los Angeles Workforce Funders Collaborative has:

  • Invested more than $3.2 million in job training, research, advocacy, capacity building, and systems change grants.
  • Affected the lives of more than 3,000 individuals by providing job skills training. Over 2,600 people found jobs or increased their wages and 2,067 were still working six months later.
  • Assisted more than 425 employers to meet their employment and skill development needs. We also created change by influencing hiring practices among participating employers and providing customized training and business services.
  • Eliminated duplication within the system by establishing the Los Angeles Workforce Systems Collaborative (LAWSC), which brings together local and private leaders to coordinate systems and advocate for policy change. Through the LAWSC, practices developed by the Los Angeles Workforce Funders Collaborative (e.g. sectoral approach) have become common among all WIBs and are regionally connected through early planning, shared strategies and aligned resources.
  • Led the way in convening leaders to pursue joint policy efforts. Success in this area included:
    • Reinstatement of federal funds to support Summer Youth Employment programs.
    • Secured funding from the Emergency Contingency Fund and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to meet TANF recipients’ workforce development needs and supply subsidized employment.
    • Joint policy advocacy efforts for the 30/10 Transportation Initiative have also achieved partial success. LA Metro has received approval of over $500 million dollars in support from the U.S. Government which will result in 5,000 jobs by 2012.
